It was peak "peak season" during my visit. I was unable to secure camping or lodging on the islands, so made base camp on Anacortes and day tripped over via ferry. No kayaking from San Juan, although I had some high anxiety adventures paddling from Anacortes (gotta watch the tides and currents around the islands). The best way to do the San Juan's would be to charter a sailboat, for sure. A huge bummer was not sightings of Orca :(
