Crystal Geyser, Green River Utah

This is a rare, cold water geyser, that was created by an exploration well in the 1940's. Powered by Carbon Dioxide, it erupts at 5 to 18 hour intervals, with geysers upwards to 60 feet. Located just off the river, it contributes some 3,000 tons of salt into the river annually. On a whim, I drove out to it, figuring I needed a place to park and contemplate an itinerary, and who knows...

Not five minutes after arriving, the geyser started gurgling and within just a few minutes it came to a full eruption! Incredible! After it had finished its business, I explored the very neat travertine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travertine) deposits between the geyser and river, before heading out for Moab and the next two National Parks (Arches and Canyons)...
